TNPSC Group 2 Exam Pattern for Mains

Mains exam is held for both interview and non-interview posts. Candidates who qualify mains exam will be either selected for the post or go to the interview round based on the type of post it is.
Mains exam is descriptive in nature and will be held in offline mode. It has two papers, Paper 1 is Tamil Language Test and Paper 2 is General Studies Test. Only candidates who score minimum qualifying mark in Paper 1 will be evaluated for Paper 2.
Paper 2 will be set according to the Degree standards. Paper 2 consists of 100 marks and Paper 300 marks. The time duration for both papers is 3 hours each. For the final selection or progression to the interview stage, only the Mains marks will be counted. All answers except for ‘Tamil to English Translation ones will be answered in Tamil. In Paper 2, candidates can choose to attempt the exam in either Tamil or English.

TNPSC Group 2 Interview is the final stage of the selection process. The interview is only for certain posts and consists of 40 marks. It is an important component of the exam. After Finalisation of selction in respect of interview posts, a freshrank list (marks secured in main writte examination) will be prepared for selection candidates in respect of non- interview posts, excluding the candidates who have been selected for interview post. selection in respect of non- interview posts will be taken up after finalising the selection for interview posts.

Unlike the UPSC Mains, there are no optional papers or subjects in the TNPSC Group 2 Main Exam Syllabus.
